Civil War diary of George T. Howard, Company D., 9th Iowa Volunteer Regiment. A resident of Scotch Grove, IA, Howard enlisted on November 20, 1861 and traveled to Camp Warren in Pacific City, MO. Howard was twenty-four when he enlisted. He was wounded during the war and mustered out on March 10, 1862 at Pea Ridge, AR. The diary, in which there is a large bullet hole, is written in pencil. Entries fill approximately half of the volume
