The progenitor of the Van Norden family in America was Pieter Casparszen Van Naerden who first appeared in the historical record in 1621 with other Huguenots and Walloons petitioning the British ambassador at the Hague for permission to emigrate to Virginia. Collection contains genealogical notes, history and sketches, mostly typescript, on members of the Van Norden and related families by Warner Van Norden, copies of wills, and a few marriage and death certificates, and personal papers of Warner's son Theodore L. Van Norden, mostly concerning a family financial scandal. The papers of Theodore Van Norden consist of manuscripts, correspondence, legal and financial papers and clippings pertaining to lawsuits against his brother and his wife as well as drawings, paper dolls, poems, stories by children, and a letter and telegram from Theodore Roosevelt.
