Notebook, presumed to belong to David Henry White, containing 83 doggerel poems in which are embedded names, addresses, and cities of the friends of the writer and compiler of the notebook. Poems contain commentary on political and social issues of the day. The writer appears to have been an ardent Republican and abolitionist and to have taught at a school for Black children in Richmond, Va. some time after the Civil War. Some notations in the book are in a shorthand or code
