The Methodist Society of New York was formed in 1820 by 300 seceding members of the Methodist Episcopal Church after disputes over administrative issues and the empowerment of the laity to weigh in on Chuch matters. William M. Stillwell served as the first pastor of the Methodist Society, out of their church on Chrystie Street. The collection records marriages performed by Rev. Stillwell between 1818 and 1851.
