Richard Milhous Nixon (1913-1994) was the 37th President of the United States, serving from 1969 to 1974, when he became the only president to resign the office. Nixon had previously served as a Republican U.S. Representative, Senator from California, and as the Vice President of the United States under Dwight D. Eisenhower. The letters and documents in the collection date from 1958-1970, and consist of a small quantity of acknowledgment letters from Nixon to members of the public during his term as Vice President. Also included are several form letters from members of the House and Senate sent to "concerned citizens" in reaction to the Watergate scandal
