Anna Lea Merritt was an American painter. Letters written by Anna Lea Merritt to J. E. Gawtherne of Portlaw relating to his purchase of her painting "St. Cecilia" from the Royal Academy in 1875. Also included are notes and clippings related to the painting, and a clipping reviewing two volumes written by Merritt about her late husband, English painter Henry Merritt
