Scope and arrangement
Collection consists of speeches made by Hughes, articles, memoranda, subject files, printed matter, and photographs. Speeches were made during his political campaigns and terms as governor of New York and cover topics such as women's suffrage, gambling, political corruption, and civil service reform between 1907 and 1910. Subject files include materials on the activities of the Water Supply Commission, the debate about direct nominations, local self-government and lotteries in New York, and the organization of the Democratic Party.
