Diaries of naturalist L.P. Gratacap include a boyhood diary (1863) kept on Staten Island concerning school, church, and home life, recreations, etc. There are comments on his relatives, playmates, the weather, Civil War, etc. Contains an address list of a much later date. Four additional diaries (1873-1909) contain nature and mineralogical observations mainly while vacationing in upper New York State, New England, Pennsylvania, Canada, Iceland, Scotland, Bermuda, etc. He comments on weather conditions, personal matters, philosophy, religion, current events, operas, plays, concerts, art exhibitions, Centennial Exhibition of 1876 at Philadelphia, etc. Many programs, photographs, clippings, etc. have been inserted
