Geza Garrison Gaspar (1887- ) was a Hungarian journalist who emigrated to the U.S. in 1920 and worked as a writer and editor. From 1927 to 1956 he was science editor for a Hungarian-American newspaper. He also wrote articles and essays with metaphysical themes and independently published his book, Science, Conscious and God, in 1950. Collection consists of Gaspar's correspondence, unpublished manuscripts, notebooks, some financial papers, and clippings. Correspondence (much of it in Hungarian) is with friends and associates as well as with editors, publishers and political leaders. The bulk of the collection is made up of Gaspar's unpublished manuscripts and notebooks (mostly in Hungarian) containing his metaphysical and theoretical writings.

Biographical/historical information

Geza G. Gaspar (1887-) was a Hungarian journalist who emigrated to the United States in 1920 and worked as both a writer and editor. From 1927 to 1956 he was science editor for the Amerikai Magyar Nepazava, an Hungarian-American newspaper. Gaspar seems to have been attracted to metaphysical ideas and often wrote essays about the relationship between man, God, the cosmos, and democracy. In 1950 he independently published his book Science, Conscious and God. Gaspar wrote several articles advocating an association of nations and later claimed this to be the forerunner of the United Nations. It does not appear that these, or his articles on other topics, were ever published.

Scope and arrangement

The collection is largely unprocessed. The first five boxes contain only correspondence (mostly unsorted) to friends and associates; much of it is in Hungarian, There is one group of letters concerning a trip to Hollywood, California to write about the film industry. The bulk of the collection is made up of Gaspar's unpublished manuscripts and notebooks. Much of this material is also in Hungarian. Scattered among the writings are letters to and from editors and political leaders who Gaspar attempted to interest in his ideas.
