Henry Atherton Forster (1868-1932) was a lawyer and historian in New York City. Collection consists of Forster's correspondence, questionnaires and scrapbook of newspaper clippings. Correspondence, 1916-1932, is with prominent American and foreign lawyers, journalists, politicians, and scholars. There are also many letters from American patriotic organizations in New York City. Topics include espionage in the U.S. during World War I, confiscation of enemy alien property, payment of allied war debts, peace diplomacy, U.S. entry into the war, and financial situation of U.S. after the war. Papers also contain questionnaires, 1914-1917, by the New York Bar Association on the judicial power over legislation and clippings about the war.

Henry A. Forster was an American lawyer based in New York City. His papers relate to the First World War and relevant matters such as espionage in the U. S., confiscation of enemy alien property, the payment of allied war debts, the peace diplomacy of Woodrow Wilson, America's entry into the war and the financial situation of the U. S. after the war when it was still a debtor country.

Scope and arrangement

The Collection consists of his correspondence with prominent American and foreign lawyers, journalist, politicians and scholars (1916-1932), Some notable correspondents were William Howard Taft, Theodore Roosevelt, Herbert Hoover and William Jennings Bryan There are also many letters from, patriotic American organizations in New York City namely The American Defense Society, The American Rights League and The National Security League Inc.. There is material such as questionnaires (1914-1917) by the N. Y. State Bar Association on the judicial power over legislation. A scrapbook of newspaper clippings is included in the collection.
