This collection contains two versions of manuscripts of The Worlds of Lincoln Kirstein, a biography of Lincoln Kirstein written by Martin Duberman in 2007.

Biographical/historical information

Lincoln Edward Kirstein (1907-1996) was a patron of the arts and writer, best known for his influence on the development of ballet in the United States. He co-founded the New York City Ballet, and served as its general director from 1948 to 1989. Kirstein wrote extensively on dance and art.

Martin B. Duberman (b.1930) is a historian and playwright who taught history in universities for over fifty years. He is the author of many biographies, including The Worlds of Lincoln Kirstein.

Scope and arrangement

This collection contains the first and second pass page proof manuscripts of the biography, The Worlds of Lincoln Kirstein, written by Martin Duberman in 2007. Minimal handwritten notes from editors are present on both versions of the manuscript. The second pass manuscript files also include a letter from Alfred A. Knopf publishers explaining changes from the earlier version.

Arrangement

Collection is divided into two parts: first pass page proof manuscript in box 1; second pass page proof manuscript in box 2.
