Scope and arrangement
The Thalia Mara papers (1945-1947, 1965-1967) contain administrative records from the Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival and University of the Dance, and several versions of Thalia Mara's book, The Language of Ballet.
Jacob's Pillow records date primarily to 1947, and contain Mara's and Arthur Mahoney's correspondence with dancers, dance teachers, publicists, potential students, and potential employees. The correspondence concerns both the festival and courses at the university. Other records include financial documents and promotional materials.
The Language of Ballet materials date from 1965 to 1967, and consist of drafts and galley copies of the book, some of which are annotated.
