G.W. Davison-Ackley was a collector of photographs. His collection dates from 1974 to 1976, and holds photographs of dancers taken by the photographer, Max Waldman. The dancers depicted are Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judith Jamison, Bonnie Mathis, Natalia Makarova, and Dennis Wayne.

Biographical/historical information

G.W. Davison-Ackley was a collector of photographs, and purchased a collection of dance photographs from the photographer, Max Waldman, in the 1970s. Max Waldman (1919-1981) was a dance and theatre photographer best known for his portraits of Mikhail Baryshnikov and Natalia Makarova.

Scope and arrangement

The collection holds black and white photograph prints taken by Max Waldman between 1974 and 1976, and purchased by G.W. Davison-Ackley. Each photograph includes a typed card with information about the date the photograph was taken, as well as the dancers and performance depicted; choreographers; musicians; production company; and the negative number.

The dancers appearing in these photographs are Mikhail Baryshnikov, Judith Jamison, Bonnie Mathis, Natalia Makarova, and Dennis Wayne, and the performances include Giselle, Le Jeune Homme et La Mort, Cry, and After Eden. The photographs are arranged alphabetically by dancer name.
