The New York Enthusiasts was an adult continuing education group led by Hans Hacker. The New York Enthusiasts dance files contain Hacker’s correspondence with various dance groups, schools, and presenters arranging for performance tickets, backstage tours and class visits, and advertisement in the group’s magazine ZIG ZAG.
The New York Enthusiasts was an adult educational organization active from 1938 to 1984. The club's aim was to offer educational outings, lectures, and other opportunities in art, theatre, dance, politics, and history. The club's magazine, ZIG ZAG, was published from July 1946 until May 1963. During that time, the Enthusiasts attended many dance productions in the city and the greater New York area. The New York Enthusiasts were directed by Hans Hacker from the early 1940s through the late 1950s. As director, Hacker organized outings for the group and solicited articles and advertisements for ZIG ZAG.
The New York Enthusiasts dance files (1951-1957) hold Hacker's correspondence with dance groups, schools, and presenters arranging for performance tickets, backstage tours and class visits, and advertisement in the groups magazine, ZIG ZAG. Correspondents include La Meri, Martha Graham Dance Company, Metropolitan Opera Ballet School, and the Country Dance Society, among many others.
