Michael Truppin (1925-1983) was a medical doctor and an avid documentarian of international dance companies. The Michael Truppin dance slides collection, dated 1962 to 1977, holds photographic slides of productions from national and international dance companies.

Biographical/historical information

Michael Truppin (1925-1983), a naturalized American citizen, was born in Dvinsk, Latvia. Truppin first emigrated to South Africa, prior to emigrating to the United States in 1953. Truppin was a renowned obstetrician and gynecologist at The Mount Sinai Medical Center, and an avid documentarian of ballet productions. Truppin and his second wife, Jan Moline Truppin, died on September 1, 1983, when their plane Korean Air Lines 007 strayed into Russian restricted air space and was shot down.

Scope and arrangement

The Michael Truppin dance slides collection, dated 1962 to 1977, contains Michael Truppin's photographs of ballet productions of national and international dance companies; principally the American Ballet Theatre, the Bolshoi Ballet, the Mariinsky Ballet, the New York City Ballet, and the Royal Ballet. The photographs include many of the principle and solo dancers of the 1960s and 1970s, including Mikhail Baryshnikov, Anthony Dowell, Cynthia Gregory, Gelsey Kirkland, Natalia Makarova, and Rudolph Nureyev.

The arrangement is alphabetical by the dance company's name.
