Cecilia Smith was born on January 23, 1811, the fifth child of the Rev. Samuel Smith (1765-1841), later dean of Christ Church, Oxford, and his wife, Anne. In 1833 Cecilia married the Rev. Richard Harington (1800-1853), who became Principal of Brasenose College in 1842. The Haringtons had three children: Richard (later Sir Richard Harington, 11th Bart.), Charles and Margaret. Cecilia Harington died June 18, 1844, aged 33. Poetical commonplace book containing poems apparently copied from contemporary printed sources. Most poems by Byron and Thomas Moore; others by Samuel Rogers, Wordsworth, Felicia Hemans, Lady Caroline Lamb, etc. Ownership signature on front pastedown: "Cecilia Smith Sep 21st 1827." Notebook bound in dark blue-green half roan over marbled boards.
