Nathaniel Hawthorne, American author. · To "My dear Sir" : 1 autograph letter signed : 23 Nov [no year; ca. 1853-1857; watermark = 1853] : (MISC 1769) : from Brunswick, Kent : begins, "Mr. Hawthorne will be very happy to have you come and stay ..." Hawthorne had been in England since July of 1853 serving a four-year term as American consul in Liverpool under President Franklin Pierce.
