William Froude, English engineer and naval architect. · To Ralph King, later second Earl of Lovelace : 1 autograph letter (fragment) signed : 13 Feb 1861 : (B'ANA 0761) : from 34 Broad St. Oxford : on mourning stationery; the top segment of a ripped-up single sheet; begins, "There is a text which enjoins on us to 'covet earnestly the best gifts', I should have greatly disobeyed this, if I had not snatched at, (rather than refused), your very nice writing table ....".
