Thomas Pringle, Scottish poet, journalist, and philanthropist. · To Charles Kirkpatrick Sharpe, antiquarian and collector : 1 autograph letter signed : 29 Apr 1828 : (MISC 3712) : 3 pages (double sheet) : from London : begins, "It is now nine or ten years since I was wont to 'bother you' for little articles for poor Constable's unlucky magazine ..."; upon inviting Sharpe to contribute to the Friendship's Offering keepsake annual, Pringle suggests: "... I can find you a place between the eloquent Mrs. Hemans and the impassioned L.E.L. or if that wd be too much for your nerves you may sit on the same bench with the demure Quaker Mrs. Amelia Opie ... I am sorry to say I shall not have our illustrious friend Sir Walter Scott ...".
