Biographical/historical information

Charlotte Carleton, née Hobhouse, Baroness Dorchester, daughter of John Cam Hobhouse, Baron Broughton, and wife of Colonel Dudley Wilmot Carleton, the fourth Baron Dorchester.

Scope and arrangement

· To Thomas Love Peacock, satirical novelist and poet : 1 autograph letter signed "Chattie Hobhouse" : [11 Jun 1854] : (P'ANA 0032) : from Erlestoke : 4 pages (double sheet) : begins, "One line, although I am in a hurry for church time, to say I have come down here ..."; with the envelope, with her black embossed monogram on the seal flap.
