Richard Davenport was a friend of Jean-Jacques Rousseau. When Rousseau visited England, he stayed with the Davenports at their other estate, Wootton in Staffordshire from 1766-1769. To Jean-Jacques Rousseau, philosopher : 1 autograph letter signed : [ca. 1769] : (MISC 0361) : begins, "I sent the enclosed on Monday to Wootton, was surpriz'd my letter returned, to hear you were gone ...".
