Miriam Jiménez Román (1951-2020) was an Afro-Puerto Rican activist, scholar, editor, author and professor who was a pioneer in the field of Afro-Latin@ studies. Jiménez Román's papers include personal and professional correspondence, contracts, research materials and personal writings, all of which helped to create and define a space for the cultural appreciation of the Afro-Latin@ community. Her family's experience as a working class family that migrated from Puerto Rico to New York helped shape her critique of racism, sexism and classism that persist in this multidimensional world.
