Maria Bayard was the daughter of William Bayard of New York City and later the wife of Duncan P. Campbell. She kept this diary while on a tour of England, Scotland, and France with her brother, Robert Bayard, and brother-in-law, Benjamin Woolsey Rogers. Entries date from the time of their landing at Southampton, England on October 13, 1814 until May 23, 1815.
