Maryanne Amacher (1938-2009) was an experimental sound artist, musician, and composer best known for her site-specific sound installation work and audio research. Amacher's collection dates from the 1890s to 2009 (bulk dates 1960s-2009), and contains her working files, as well as sound and video recordings related to her installations, music compositions, and sound research. The collection details the entirety of Amacher's five-decade music career, illustrating her creative process, research methods, and expansive musical output. less

Pauline Oliveros was an avant-garde composer and performer. Born in 1932, she initially studied with her mother and grandmother, eventually studying composition at the University of Houston (1949-1952), San Francisco State College (1954-1956), and privately with Robert Erickson. She was codirector of the San Francisco Tape Music Center (1961-1965) and director when it became the Mills Tape Music Center (1966-1967). From 1967-1981 she taught at the University of California, San Diego. In 1981 she became consulting director of the Creative Music Foundation at West Hurley, New York. The Pauline Oliveros papers contains Oliveros' correspondence files through the year 2001. less

Sorrel Hays (1941-2020) was a composer, pianist, and artist best known for her compositions Southern Voices (1981), The Glass Woman (1989-1993), and Our Giraffe (2006-2008) as well as her interpretations of Henry Cowell's and John Cage's music. Marilyn Ries (1937-2017) was a prolific sound engineer and producer who created audiobooks, sound effects, radio and educational programs, music recordings, and video and film recordings. Hays and Ries met in 1985, became domestic partners in 1989, and married in 2015. Their papers date from 1950 to 2019 and chronicle their professional careers through sound and video recordings, correspondence, score drafts, notes, notebooks, contracts, grant proposals, and press clippings. The collection also holds personal documents and photographs. less
