Alfred Marshall Mayer was a noted American physicist born in Baltimore in 1836. His son, Alfred Goldsborough Mayor (1868-1922) was a noted marine zoologist and entomologist who changed the spelling of his last name to Mayor during World War I. Alfred Marshall Mayer's papers include correspondence, notes on physics and astronomy maintained as a student in Paris and as a teacher at Lehigh University and Stevens Institute of Technology.
