Mary de Camp Banks Moore (b.1878) was the daughter of Gen. Robert Lenox Banks, Secretary and Assistant Treasurer of the New York Central Railroad, and Mary de Camp Corning, widow of Edwin Weld Corning, who was the nephew of Erastus Corning, President of the New York Central Railroad. She was born and raised in Albany, N.Y. In 1901 she married Maurice Moore; they resided in Lynchburg, Va. The Mary de Camp Banks Moore papers consist of her personal papers and her genealogical research on the De Camp, Carmer, Lenox, Banks, and allied families. Personal papers, 1896-1949 and undated, consist of her writings, including a notebook of personal reminiscences written 1913 recording her early life in Albany prior to her marriage in 1901, and notes on the early life of her mother, Mary de Camp Banks (b. 1843); personal correspondence, with some Banks family notes; and ephemera, including certificates and invitations. Also present are photographs, including cabinet cards, cartes-de-visite, and tintypes, of Mary de Camp Banks Moore, family members and friends,and residences. Henry Marcus Quackenbush (1847-1933) was an inventor and industrialist who developed and manufactured guns, nutcrackers, and nut picks, among other items. He founded H.M. Quackenbush Company in 1871. Quackenbush was a native of Herkimer, New York, where he was active in organizations such as the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), the Salvation Army, and the Anti-Saloon League. The Henry Marcus Quackenbush papers date from 1885 to 1992. The majority of the collection consists of correspondence, ephemera, and financial records dating from 1890 to 1933, documenting Quackenbush's involvement with charitable organizations, his family life, household management and expenses, and business operations and sales. Two ledgers contain Quackenbush's monthly financial statements from 1906 to 1922, and two sales books list figures of daily sales for 1893 to 1899 and 1915 to 1935. Materials dating after Quackenbush's death include a report on the Quackenbush company's tax liability; writings about Quackenbush and the guns he manufactured; letters from gun collectors to Bronson A. Quackenbush; and duplicates of a photograph of Quackenbush. less

The United States Sanitary Commission (USSC), 1861-1879, was a civilian organization authorized by the United States government to provide medical and sanitary assistance to the Union volunteer forces during the United States Civil War (1861-1865). As the USSC broadened the scope of its work during the war, Regular troops, sailors and others also benefited from its services. The collection consists of correspondence, memoranda, minutes, reports, military service claim files, registers, diaries, financial records, scrapbooks, posters, illustrations, photographs, printed matter, maps, ephemera and artifacts concerning the Commission's sanitary, medical and relief work during the Civil War, as well as its post-war relief work and publication activities.
