The Special Libraries Association, New York City Chapter (SLA-NY) is the New York chapter of the Special Library Association, a member-led organization of librarians and information professionals working in specialized areas such as law, medical, government, business, education, non-profits, and the arts. Joan Didion (1934-2021) and John Gregory Dunne (1932-2003) were writers closely associated with the New Journalism movement who wrote novels, essays, long-form nonfiction, and screenplays. Didion and Dunne's papers date from the 1840s through 2022 (bulk dates 1950s-2010s) and chronicle their literary and screenwriting careers through correspondence, publishing files, notes for writing projects, photographs, and research files. The papers also include objects from their home lives, certificates and awards, personal and family ephemera, and artwork. less

Jean Stein (1934-2017) was an American author, oral historian, editor, and philanthropist. She worked as an editor at The Paris Review, under George Plimpton, and co-edited the literary and visual arts magazine Grand Street with Walter Hopps. She was married to William vanden Heuvel and Torsten Wiesel. The Jean Stein papers (1916-2016) document Stein's career and life. The works most extensively represented are Stein's oral history biography of the American actress and Andy Warhol muse, Edie Sedgwick, Edie: An American Biography, (1982); and the oral history West of Eden: An American Place, which focused on five families and individuals Stein considered essential to the history of Los Angeles. Personal files, which include letters Stein received from novelist William Faulkner, document Stein's childhood of wealth and privilege as a the daughter of talent agent and MCA founder, Jules Stein; and her adult life as a member of New York's intellectual elite. less

Block Communities, Inc. (BCI) was a community organizing anti-poverty agency that operated in New York City from 1966 until 1968. Originating in East Harlem, the group consisted of community organizers who moved onto a city block, surveyed the residents, and spearheaded various community development programs. This collection consists of administrative materials, daily and weekly reports by block workers, and publicity materials that include moving images. The collection also holds latter day reflections from BCI alumni. less

The Economic Club of New York is a nonpartisan and nonprofit membership organization that promotes the study and discussion of social, economic, and political questions. The Club's records document its meetings through audio and moving image recordings, transcripts, photographs, and programs. less

These materials consist of audio tapes, videotapes and films that were culled from the organizational records and personal papers collected by the International Gay Information Center. They include audio recordings of interviews, meetings, lectures, radio and television shows, and live performances. His father, Bernard Katz (1901-1970), an artist and designer who worked in advertising, was an independent historian of African-American history and jazz music. Jonathan Katz's mother, Phyllis Brownstone Katz, was a magazine editor and co-founder of the Jane Street Community Garden. The Jonathan Ned Katz papers reflect his life and career as an historian, author, LGBTQ rights advocate, teacher, and textile designer. They most heavily document Katz's research and writings on LGBTQ history and activism, and encompass his personal life, family, friends, and the LGBTQ liberation movement. The collection also contains the papers of his parents, Bernard Katz and Phyllis Brownstone Katz. less
