The Mail & Express Company was the publisher of the Evening Mail, a New York City daily newspaper. In 1924 the Evening Mail was absorbed by the New York Evening Telegram. Collection consists of non-editorial records for the Mail & Express Company for the period 1904-1920. Files of the Treasurer, 1915-1920, the Business Manager, 1915-1920, and the Auditor, 1916-1920, contain correspondence and memoranda pertaining to finances, advertising, circulation, and other business issues, including several payrolls, 1914-1917, for various departments. Legal files, 1904-1915, contain briefs, depositions and court transcripts for lawsuits against the Evening Mail. Also, two volumes about the newspaper's advertising, and architectural drawings of the company's offices.
