The longest section, on Germany, consists of mounted programs for and comments in ink about Der Barbier von Bagdad, Cavalleria Rusticana, Der Afrikanerin, Bastien und Bastienne, Der Entfürung aus dem Serail, Der Prophet, Rigoletto, Mignon, Falstaff, Rienzi, Der Mikado, Siegfried, Götterdämmerung, and Carmen. A shorter section on Florence Italy, March 1901, discusses Aida, Mefistofele, Un Ballo in Maschera, Il Trillo del Diavolo (Falchi), Tosca, La Traviata, and the Geisha ; it includes only one program, laid in, for Il Trillo. A final short section, on Paris, discusses Astarte, L'Ouragan, Mireille, La Basoche, Lakmé, Le Chalet, Les Noces de Jeannette, and Carmen ; it includes no programs. Brady's criticism touches on the compositions, but concentrates chiefly on the singing. less

The Helen Armstead-Johnson miscellaneous theater collections (HAJMTC) were formed by over two hundred file-folder level collections (one-three file folders per personality or event). The collections contain information dating from the mid-nineteenth century to the late twentieth century, and they document early dramatic actors, minstrel shows, vaudeville, musical revues, Broadway productions, and protest dramas, among others. In addition to actors, playwrights, singers, musicians, and dancers and the productions in which they appeared, there are collections for poets and visual artists. less

Sorrel Hays (1941-2020) was a composer, pianist, and artist best known for her compositions Southern Voices (1981), The Glass Woman (1989-1993), and Our Giraffe (2006-2008) as well as her interpretations of Henry Cowell's and John Cage's music. Marilyn Ries (1937-2017) was a prolific sound engineer and producer who created audiobooks, sound effects, radio and educational programs, music recordings, and video and film recordings. Hays and Ries met in 1985, became domestic partners in 1989, and married in 2015. Their papers date from 1950 to 2019 and chronicle their professional careers through sound and video recordings, correspondence, score drafts, notes, notebooks, contracts, grant proposals, and press clippings. The collection also holds personal documents and photographs. less
