Ellis Kohs was a composer of classical music. He is well known for his opera Amerika based upon the Franz Kafka novel by the same name. Kohs began his teaching career in 1946 with posts at the Kansas City Conservatory, the College of the Pacific and Stanford University. In 1950 he joined the faculty of the University of Southern California, teaching there for 38 years. Kohs was the author of several music theory textbooks. less
