{"value"=>"<p>The bulk of the correspondence dates from the late 1960s to the late 1970s, and includes incoming and outgoing letters, as well as enclosures such as reports, studies and memoranda. Files document projects involving NYPL and academic institutions, government bodies, other libraries, professional groups, booksellers, contributors, and firms offering technical resources. For example, access to funding and grants for specific programs was negotiated with such government agencies as the National Endowment for the Humanities and the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. Possible educational cooperative ventures were being planned with the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY). The correspondence also documents discussions concerning internal NYPL policies and plans for buildings and facilities. Included are materials concerning the implementation of new technology, proposals for Harlem libraries, plans for Bryant Park, collections deeded to NYPL, acknowledgements of contributions from donors and folders on such issues as minority hiring, copyright laws, demonstrations against the U.S. war against Vietnam, poverty programs, prison libraries and pornography. There are also queries, complaints, requests and announcements from the public.</p>"}
