{"value"=>"
Seesaw, which was written by Michael Stewart, based on William Gibson's play Two for the Seesaw, opened in Detroit in 1973, and moved to Broadway that same year. In that time the show changed leads (Lainie Kazan was replaced by Michele Lee), and directors (Ed Sherin was replaced by Michael Bennett), and Michael Stewart declined to be named as the book's author. The files include drafts in chronological order, revisions, notes, casting information, lyrics, schedules, programs, correspondence, box office statements, clippings, documentation of Stewart's problems with the show, and two copies of William Gibson's script. The correspondence (1971-1981) includes letters regarding royalties and rights, and also regarding Stewart's dissatisfaction with the New York production of the show, as directed by Michael Bennett. There is one letter from Lainie Kazan and one from Jerome Robbins, and also copies of two letters from Stewart to Bennett. Stewart's problems with the show are represented by a typescript of a recorded journal (1972-1973) kept by Stewart leading up to his withdrawal from the show. The actual recording was not received with the collection. Clippings include reviews and also cover some of the controversies surrounding the show. Music for Seesaw was by Cy Coleman, with lyrics by Dorothy Fields.
"}
