{"value"=>"<p>Consisting of printed material on an eclectic array of subjects, the general reference files were collected at the request and in anticipation of the needs of other Fair departments. New York World's Fair Background files --gathered by the department for Monaghan's ultimately-unrealized Fair history and intended to form the basis of the Fair archive-- pertain to the planning, design and execution of the Fair. Also included under this heading are autographed speech transcripts, menus, verse, and Monaghan's \"Curiosa\" file of letters with suggestions for unusual exhibits and spectacles. Other Fairs files include guidebooks, photographs and publicity materials compiled to provide Fair staff with comparative data and samples. Some of this material was gathered during Fair officials' visits to Cleveland's Great Lakes Exopsition, to two Texas fairs, and to the 1937 \"secret fair\" in Düsseldorf. Many of the photographs, printed materials and reports on the 1937 Paris exposition were furnished by Thérèse Bonney, a publicist and photographer.
