{"value"=>"<p>The Photography Unit, which began its work documenting site construction progress, was responsible for shooting, developing, printing, captioning, selecting and furnishing promotional prints and layouts to newspapers, magazines and photo services, as well as to other Fair departments. Headed by picture editor Leo Pollock, the staff included a caption writer, chief photographer (who oversaw six others) and printers. Frequent subjects include aerial views of the Fairgrounds, the Trylon and Perisphere, murals and sculptures, exhibits, amusements, contests, performances, building dedications, celebrity visits, and the general public on the Fairgrounds and attending special events. Many photos feature Fair president and ubiquitous promoter Grover Whalen and New York City mayor Fiorello LaGuardia. Digital images of the more than 12,000 promotional photographs and their captions will be accessible through the New York Public Library's Digital Gallery. The prints (largely 8 x 10 in.) are often identified on the reverse by serial numbers, which correspond to negatives (boxes 2419-2506).</p> <p>These photographs are being digitized.
