{"value"=>"<p>Press Wireless, Inc. was formed in the 1920s by The New York Times and several other newspapers to provide low-cost radio transmission of press traffic to and from abroad and remote points within the U. S. Its avowed purpose was to provide sufficient competition for other communications carriers to prevent their raising rates excessively. During the 1940s it also entered the field of transmission equipment and research on the facsimile transmission of maps and photographs. Following World War II it encountered financial difficulties, due in large part to its inability to compete effectively with communications giants such as ITT, Western Union and RCA, from which it never recovered.
