At a memorial meeting in December of 1924 honoring Samuel Gompers and August Belmont, Jr., the question was asked whether it was or was not possible to bring capital and labor together to establish industrial peace. The ensuing discussion led to the commissioning in 1925 of a department to study this question. Members of the department included Lawrence F. Abbott (<span class=\"title\">The Outlook)</span>, Nicholas Brady (president of New York Edison Company), Otto Eidlitz, (Building Trades Employers' Association), Howard Elliott (Northern Pacific Railway), and Percy Straus (R.H. Macy & Company). The department organized local Industrial Round Tables to study and discuss questions of employee-employer friction and ways to promote industrial peace.</p>"}
