As part of the progress survey project the object of the committee was to make a comparative assessment of the quality of public school education -- kindergarten through high school -- in 1885 and 1914.</p> <p>The files consist of correspondence, chiefly of Ralph Easley and Roland P. Falkner, with presidents of colleges and universities, professors of economics, commissioners of State boards of education, and other educators, including Edward Alderman (president of the University of Virginia), John Finley, Frederick Fish (chairman of the Massachusetts State Board of Education), Virginia Gildersleeve (dean of Barnard College), Jeremiah Jenks, Charles Van Hise (president of the University of Wisconsin), and Benjamin I. Wheeler (president of the University of California). There are also miscellaneous papers dealing with the subject of education.</p>"}
