Scope and arrangement
The C. A. Muller Actors Portraits consists of 32 watercolor portraits of actors in costume from about 1870 to 1897. Most are signed by the actor, many also containing a quote from the play depicted. Most of the portraits are also signed by Muller and were probably rendered from photographs.
The images are primarily inscribed to J. W. Albaugh, a theater manager from the Washington D.C. area, with personal notes from the actors. Some of the actors included are Mary Anderson, Lawrence Barrett, Sarah Bernhardt, Edwin Booth, Lotta Crabtree, Fanny Davenport, Edwin Forrest, Joseph Jefferson, Richard Mansfield, Ada Rehan and E. H. Sothern.
