George B. Dowell was affiliated with the Theatre Department of Smith College, Northampton, Mass., where he directed a number of plays. The George B. Dowell papers span 1954-1957, but the bulk date from 1954, and are primarily concerned with arrangements for a theatrical tour of the British Isles by a troupe of Smith College students, performing a full-length play and several one-acts. Also included is an undated essay written by George Dowell on the influence of Persian poets on the work of Ralph Waldo Emerson.
