Scope and arrangement
The Hip-Hop Education Center collection consists of 446 moving image works and forty-one sound recordings created from 1979 to 2014. These works have been included in Hip-Hop Odyssey International Film Festivals, or created or presented with the assistance of H2ONewsreel.
The collection includes early film and video works by Charlie Ahearn, Fred "Fab 5 Freddy" Brathwaite, Shaka King, and Boots Riley. It also includes works featuring celebrated rappers such as Bahamadia, Big Pun, Dead Prez, Grandmaster Caz, KRS-One, Missy Elliott, Outkast, and Rah Digga; DJs and producers like Afrika Bambaataa and 9th Wonder; graffiti artists including New York's Tats CRU and Paris's MACrew; and breakdancers Richie "Crazy Legs" Colon and Ana "Rokafella" Garcia. Beyond diverse locales throughout the United States, the collection includes works from across six continents, including countries such as Australia, Brazil, Colombia, Curacao, Japan, Palestine, and South Africa.
The Hip-Hop Education Center collection is arranged in two series:

Series I: Films: Four hundred and forty-six moving image works of varying lengths and original formats. This series is arranged alphabetically by title and includes short and feature-length films, music videos, and performance footage, among other genres. When available, the director, synopsis, and runtime are included in each item's scope and content note. Synopses are retained from the original collection documentation, or amended from other sources such as H2ONewsreel, IMDB, and WorldCat. Runtimes, rounded up to the nearest minute, are also amended from the original collection documentation.

Series II: Sound recordings: Forty-one recorded sound works, including individual songs, albums, and motion picture soundtracks. This series is organized alphabetically by title. When available, the artist is included in each item's scope and content note.
