Florence Foster Jenkins, 1868-1944, was an American soprano whose concerts attracted crowds despite scathing reviews. She founded and presided over the Verdi Club and was noted for generosity to younger performers. Actor St. Clair Bayfield managed her career. Includes Florence Foster Jenkins scrapbook and Verdi Club address book. The contents of the scrapbook "are from the personal archives of the late Mr. St. Clair Bayfield of New York City and were in the possession of his widow, Mrs. St. Clair [Kathleen] Bayfield of Larchmont, New York. Under her direction, the album was compiled by Helen R. From, a close friend of both Mr. and Mrs. St. Clair Bayfield." The scrapbook contains material about Verdi Club events and some of Mr. Bayfield's performances as well as Mrs. Jenkins's solo concerts.
