Cornelius Vanderbilt (1794-1877) was a steamship and railroad promoter and financier. Collection consists of typewritten transcripts of correspondence of Vanderbilt and his son, William Henry Vanderbilt, with Bishop Holland Nimmons McTyeire, relating to the founding of Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.
