The Palmer, Howell and Sands families were from Westchester County and New York City. Collection consists of correspondence, diary and accounts of various members of the Palmer, Howell, Sands, and related families. Papers include accounts of Palmer & Howell, dealers in shell combs, 1851-1859; accounts of Thomas Palmer, 1839-1885; several letters of Anson S. Palmer, 1863; accounts and correspondence of Thomas Palmer Howell, 1871-1900; accounts of Ephraim H. Howell, 1853-1857; Howell family accounts, 1857-1893; accounts of Elisha Sands, 1853-1869; accounts and corrrespondence of Hannah H. Sands, 1863-1885; accounts of Harry H. Sands, 1853-1872; mercantile accounts of Struelens & Palmer, 1858-1859; and letters to George B. Westcott of Milton, Conn., 1847-1874, from members of his family in Bridgeport, Conn., and New York City. Also, accounts of the estate of John Mead, 1854-1860; accounts of Francis and John Hagadorn, 1861-1884; Brown family accounts, 1864-1871; accounts of James and Eliza Stringer, 1858-1882; several accounts of the Perrin family; and the diary of an unidentified member of the Perrin family kept during a trip to Europe in 1851.
