Jane Verner Mitchel (known as Jenny) was the wife of Fenian leader John Mitchel. Collection consists of transcripts of Jenny Mitchel's letters to Mary Thompson in Ireland, describing the life of the Mitchel family as political prisoners in Van Dieman's Land (Tasmania), their escape to San Francisco in 1853 and life in the United States.
