This collection contains records which Arthur Hamilton-Gordon, 1st Baron Stanmore, kept as governor of Trinidad while it was under British rule. These official papers include drafts of dispatches, correspondence, proceedings of the council, and other materials related to civil appointments, the disposal of Crown lands, highways, coolie labor, education, convict labor, police, lepers, taxes, and annexation to the United States. There are also records concerning immigration and labor in Venezuela and British Guiana. Each volume includes a summary of its contents
