Alexander Chalmers, Scottish biographer and literary editor. In addition to serving as editor of the Morning Herald and producing various editions of the works of great authors, he published A General Biographical Dictionary in 32 volumes (1812-1817), to which he contributed over 4000 biographical entries. To unidentified recipient : 1 autograph letter : 11 Sep 1833 : (MISC 1561) : begins: "I have delayed..." [Note: it is not entirely certain that the author of this letter is Chalmers -- his hand was suggested by the auction house through which the letter was purchased.].
