Stopford Augustus Brooke, British preacher and writer. His sermons reflected his liberal Christianity and social commitment. Brooke was also a lecturer and a literary critic. His English Literature (1876) is a primer which covers the work of literary figures from Caedmon to Shelley. Holograph address, "Inaugural address to the Shelley Society" : 10 Mar 1886 : (S'ANA 0009) : begins, "It has been asked, 'Why have a Shelley Society?'"; the address was privately printed in 1886 by T. J. Wise. Laid in is a note from T. J. Wise (S'ANA 0154).
