Werner Klemperer (1920-2000) was an actor who worked in theater, film, and television. He was known for playing Colonel Klink in Hogan's Heroes, and won the Tony Award for his performance as Herr Schultz in the 1987 revival of Cabaret. The Werner Klemperer papers (1943-2001) consist of programs, clippings, scripts, photographs, and ephemera documenting his acting career. The collection contains profiles and obituaries of Klemperer, and material related to productions he performed in, including Cabaret, Master Class (a 1984 Kennedy Center production and a 1986 Roundabout Theatre Company production), Uncle Vanya (1995), the film Operation Eichmann (1961), and television shows Hogan's Heroes and Lost in Space. Klemperer's annotated scripts for Cabaret, Master Class (1984), and Uncle Vanya are present. During World War II, Klemperer was in the U.S. Army Special Service, where he worked with Maurice Evans and Alan Brock. The collection contains a small number of programs, photographs, and articles related to Klemperer's theater work in the army. The collection also contains material related to his activities narrating and conducting for orchestras across the United States from 1979 to the 1990s.
