The Ignaz Anton Pilat Papers contain correspondence, official documents, newspaper clippings, booklets and pamphlets, and photographs and other graphics. The largest series is correspondence, chiefly between Pilat and other individuals involved in the construction of Central Park. There are manuscripts by Pilat describing the progress of work, as well as a letter from Frederick Law Olmsted detailing Pilat's gardening duties. Other original documents date from Pilat's residence in Austria and include a letter to Ferdinand I, in which Pilat requests the position of imperial gardener, certificates of employment and education, and Pilat's passport. Most of the newspaper clippings refer to the building of Central Park, although there are galley proofs of gardening columns Pilat apparently wrote for New York newspapers

Francis Vinton Greene (1850-1921) was an American soldier, engineer and author. His military duties included serving as military attaché in Russia in 1877, teaching at West Point, and commanding volunteers during the Spanish-American War. In 1903 he was appointed Police Commissioner of New York City. He also worked as an engineer on various projects and wrote military histories. Collection consists of Greene's correspondence, his papers pertaining to service in the Spanish-American War, speeches, miscellaneous materials, and books. Correspondence, 1801-1921, includes general correspondence; letters from Theodore Roosevelt, Major General Emory Upton and General William Tecumseh Sherman; and family letters. Spanish-American War papers, 1898-1900, contain orders, telegrams, accounts, reports, and some correspondence. Speeches, 1898-1918, were given by Greene as a soldier, businessman and police commissioner. Miscellaneous papers, 1801-1915, consist of a wide range of materials relating to all aspects of Greene's life and include genealogical information, orders, maps, memoranda, drafts of articles and reports, notes, photographs, and clippings. Bound volumes are orderly books (including 1776 orderly book of Nathanael Greene), writings on military tactics, diaries kept by Greene, and correspondence.

Review of Reviews; and many records of Shaw's personal life, including financial records, scrapbooks, photographs, ephemera, and his notes on the Shaw family's genealogy, as well as Shaw's personal memoirs. Materials range in date from 1827 to 1953, with the majority of the records falling between 1890 and 1947. Albert Shaw (1857-1947) was an editor, journalist and scholar who spent most of his career as the editor and publisher of the Review of Reviews, a digest of progressive thought and political analysis. Shaw's principal interests were the improvement of municipal government, the relationship of business and organized labor, agricultural reform, international affairs, and contemporary politics and economics, topics which he wrote and spoke on frequently.

Ford; and four of his children, Kathleen Ford Turle (b. 1856), Rosalie Ford Barr (b. 1859), Mabel Ford Mayo-Smith (b. 1863), and Malcolm Webster Ford (1862-1902), an amateur athlete in the 1880s. They were commissioned by individuals, churches, proprietors, and city government (The Corporation of the City of New York) and were created between 1667 and 1821, with the bulk of the collection dating from 1770 to 1810. There are also some surveys of land in upstate New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

The Bronson family included Isaac Bronson (1760-1838), of New York City and Greenfield, Conn., and his sons Arthur (1801-1844), Frederic (1802-1868) and Oliver (1799-1875), who aided him in his business as a land speculator, money-lender and promoter of westward expansion. Collection consists of correspondence, accounts, records of loans and mortgages, deeds, maps, and other land, business and personal papers of Isaac Bronson and his sons Arthur, Frederic and Oliver. Includes material on land in Jefferson County, N.Y., North Carolina and elsewhere, banks and banking, currency, railroad bonds, and the Panic of 1837. Persons represented include the Baring Brothers of London, James Lefferts Brinckerhoff, Charlotte Brinckerhoff Bronson, Ethel Bronson, C.C. Cambreleng, James B.
