The Charles Payne collection spans over five decades of materials documenting the American Ballet Theatre with items such as photographs, clippings and articles, performance programs, and costume and set designs. Payne occupied various administrative roles throughout his nearly 40 year career with the company and compiled the contents of this collection. He also collected photographs of a small number of American and European dance companies. The majority of the collection is photographs of American Ballet Theatre's reportoire dating back to its predecessor, the Mordkin Ballet, in the late 1930s to the Ballet Theatre's formation in 1940 and its subsequent activities for more than thirty years thereafter. less

The Fred Fehl photographs collection consists of photographs and published materials related to Fehl's work documenting dance and theater performances, mainly in New York City. The majority of the photographs are black and white 5" x 7" prints. Ballet companies that are well represented are the American Ballet Theatre, the Joffrey Ballet Company, and the New York City Ballet. There are also published materials that feature Fehl's photography as reproduced in newspapers, magazines, programs, and other media. less

The Pauline Lawrence Limón Collection [(S) *MGZMD 15] is intrinsically linked with the José Limón Papers, and, as a whole, either collection can only be used effectively in conjunction with the other. In addition, the Doris Humphrey Collection [(S) *MGZMC-Res. 3] includes letters written by José Limón and by Pauline Lawrence, as well as other material pertaining to them. less
